About Me

Welcome to Beyond the Goggles! My name is Rachel and I am an 8th grade science teacher in Ohio.  I have been teaching for eleven years, and I absolutely LOVE my job!  During the 2012-13 school year I had the opportunity to become a mentor for an entry-year teacher, and I had so much fun sharing cool ideas from my classroom that I decided to start this blog.

Beyond the Goggles was named for how I want my students to think about science.  So many students come to science class with a picture in their mind of a crazy-haired old guy with goggles and a lab coat, and they think THAT is science.  Can it be?  Sure!  But science is SO much more.  It's all around us!  One of my goals as a middle school science teacher is to get my students to see beyond the goggles - to see what science is really all about.

So as I blog about science lessons and activities that I do in my classroom, classroom management ideas, and other education-related topics, I hope you find something (or many somethings!) that you can use in your own classroom!
